At the 2006 Olympic Winter Games, she fell and suffered a career-threatening bone bruise. In 2007, she found herself sidelined for six months due to a neck injury. She then became ill at the 2008 World Championships and was prescribed Sudafed for her symptoms, which also raised her heart rate. And, in February 2009, Allison broke her leg during a race in Bulgaria when she and a teammate collided.
Despite a multitude of obstacles, Allison never quits. She tackles each challenge head-on, continuing to work even harder to be a fierce competitor. She qualified for her first U.S. Olympic team in 2002 after only training for a little over a year, and has since won more world cup medals than any short track female skater in history. Her determination and fearlessness allowed her to come back from a broken leg and qualify for the 2010 U.S. Olympic Team 6 months after suffering that horrific injury.
Allison is a prime example of a fearless woman. In addition to her dazzling skating accomplishments, she has a bachelor's degree in marketing and management from Penn State and an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology's online program. Allison has brains and beauty: She was nominated for Sports Illustrated's "Most Studious Olympic Athlete" in 2006, and is a model with Wilhelmina.
P&G, Proud Partner of the U.S. Olympic Team. 36 USC 220506.
What did your mom pass on to you
that makes you the
fearless female
you are today?
Allison: She has taught me so many things: You will never fail if you try. To never give up. To be independent and do things on my own because I can. To show strength and fearlessness. And the biggest thing she taught me is to never be satisfied—always pushing me to do more and to try my best.
Is there anything
you'd like to say
to your mom today?
Allison: I love you, Mom. I can't even explain how proud I am to have you as my mom. You're beautiful in so many ways and you're the best, strongest and most fearless mom in the world. I'm very lucky. You have taught me so much about being the amazing woman that you are. There is truly no way I could have done this without you. Thank you, Ma!
